hexabend

hexabend is a hex editor built specifically for databending: open an image, edit its raw bytes in a hex grid, and watch a live preview corrupt in real time as you type. A bad edit just shows a “can’t decode” badge instead of crashing the app.

BMP files glitch best since they’re uncompressed, so edits stay visible without breaking the file entirely. JPEG works if you edit past the header; PNG usually just fails to decode on edit. It supports undo/redo, jumping to an offset or searching for a hex/ASCII pattern, bulk operations (randomize/invert/fill/shift) over a selected byte range, and presets that auto-target the actual pixel/scan data for BMP or JPEG instead of glitching the whole file blindly.

The project is split into a testable Core (models/view-models, no WPF dependency), the WPF App itself, and an xunit test project — kept separate specifically so the glitch logic can be tested without spinning up a UI.
